5 Creates gridlock effect (control government spending)
Parties become watchdogs of each other Curbs corruption and selfish ambitions More ideas, and since it needs bipartisan support, reforms are more effective and lasting

7 CONS Ineffective ( no common ground, therefore, no progress)
Many successful presidential terms were one-party rule (George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt) Corruption is just as likely in a divided government
