3 Some of the qualities of good/ great leaders
Good listener Able to celebrate success, compliment, stay positive Integrity – a value base that is shown, explicit Empathy – as a communication style, ability to relate Open and transparent Self aware – and able to delegate well, awareness of others’ skills Patience (extreme!) Well organised Respectful of privacy, confidentiality where relevant Able to make time for the role Willing to invest in their own continuous development

4 Barriers for Women in Community Leadership Roles
Self confidence Family responsibilities Men and women: stereotypical mindsets and cultures. Ideas about where we think power resides (maleness, older people) Female leaders ‘pulling up the ladder’ Negative views of assertive women compared to men (‘bossy’) The need to work much harder to prove your leadership ability Stereotype of ‘over emotional’ woman (i.e. menopause) Women being too amenable and adaptable - as a copying strategy in structure that privileges men.

Educate girls and boys Telling more Big Local stories about individual women’s journeys; making visible Supporting good role models; network Include men as allies Mentoring, coaches
