With the patient's mouth opened, the tip of the curved blade (Macintosh) is inserted into the right side of the mouth. With the patient's mouth opened, the tip of the curved blade (Macintosh) is inserted into the right side of the mouth. By rotating the wrist, the tongue can then be displaced (to the patient's left) with the flange of the blade.
