5 English Writing I Objectives:  to master the basics of English writing skills in the systematical way  to improve writing ability in the English language  to use written language in accordance with the modern standards and norms © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University

8 English Writing I Assessment  Mid-Term Test  Final Test Course Grading  15% -- Attendance  15% -- Mid-term Test  70% -- Final Test © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University

9 Notes  Regular attendance is required. Absence will lead to low scores of class performance. Absence for 5 and more times will fail the course.  Writing assignment, whether for in-class or after- class practice, must be finished in time. Late or undone wok will make you get less points. © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University

11 Journal Writing How can it help?  You improve your writing by writing. Writing every day will help you become fluent.  You choose the topics. In your journal, you can write about topics that are interesting and relevant to your life. You are practicing expressing your ideas and feelings in your journal.  Writing a journal can be very enjoyable. © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University

12 Journal Writing How to Start  Take a notebook of regular office paper.  Each time you write in your journal, put the date, the time you start, and the time you stop.  Don't skip lines.  Write for at least 15 minutes each day.  Required volume: 3-10 sentences.  Try to practice the grammar and new vocabulary or idioms you are learning in class. © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University

13 Journal Writing How to Start  Write about anything that interests you: your daily life, your problems, your feelings, or your opinions.  Your journal will not be shared with other members of the class. Only your teacher will read it.  Your teacher will collect your journals regularly, every week or two, to check that you are doing them, to offer advice on your writing, or to respond to your writing. He/she will not correct your grammar or spelling although he/she may point out errors that you make repeatedly. © Olga Predushchenko, Jiujiang University
