2 Chemistry E85 refers to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Petroleum is added to improve cold start, increase flame luminosity and denature ethanol. Ethanol formula: (C2H5OH) Does not change regardless of what it is produced from. Reaction: C2H5OH + 3O2+Heat ---> 2CO2+ 3H2O

4 Energy Flow When the fuel is in the tank, it’s potential energy. As it moves into the piston chamber it becomes kinetic energy. As the ethanol mixture enters the chamber and ignites, it becomes mechanical energy.

6 Features The Fuel releases CO2 which plants absorb
Helps the farming industry Reduces the U.S’s dependence on imported oils Has equal power, acceleration and cruising speed of a regular gas car.

7 Cost, savings, and calculations
As of January 2016: Ethanol: $1.86 Hybrid: $1.98 Fuel Cell: $ 0.15 per kW (expensive to make) Gasoline: $1.98 Electric: $1,000-$6,000 for car battery CNG: $2.09 Biodiesel: $2.41 With 22.9mpg, the average cost for 15,000 miles with an ethanol car would be $1, For opposing fuels, such as hybrid and gasoline, would be around $1, Ethanol is the cheapest alternative compared to every fuel.

8 Gas stations Most ethanol gas stations are conveniently located in the Midwest. A, B, and C on the map pinpoint where ethanol stations near this location are.
