Final Steps to Registration
SOLUS (Student On-Line University System) Update your address and contact information and banking information if system allows Check your program, courses for accuracy International Students Register for UHIP Submit copy of study permit For those students new to Queen’s, SOLUS is the program that manages student information. Reinforce how important it is to learn how to use it. Banking information will be discussed further. International students must register for UHIP before they will be able to register in their program.

How to Register for CHEE Courses
Before October 4th from supervisor granting permission to take the course I will register you in the course After October 4th Academic change form with signatures Registrar will register you – may take 2 or 3 weeks Add/drop date is October 10th. After that, the Grad School needs an explanation as to why the course additions are late. I lose access to add courses in the Fall term after October 10th but can still add courses in the Winter term up to January 12th.

How to Register for Non-CHEE or 4th Year Courses
Before October 4th Academic Change form with signatures I will obtain Departmental permission I will register you in the course After October 4th Academic change form with signatures Registrar will register you – may take 2 or 3 weeks Some coursework can be in other departments and up to one course can be 4th year (but not in CHEE, except for Doctoral students who have permission from their supervisor).

How to Register for RMC Courses
As soon as possible in September Obtain a registration form from Chem Eng website Obtain a signature from CHEE Dept Head or Grad Coordinator Take the form to the Grad School for signature Take the form to RMC, Sawyer Building for signature from RMC CHEE Dept Head You will be registered in the course by the RMC Grad School Your mark will show as a transfer credit Special registration procedure. Ensure there is room in the course first by contacting the course instructor.

How do I get paid? First you need a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Domestic Students provide a photocopy of your SIN to me before September 9th. International Students - Go to Service Canada to obtain a SIN. Contact them or QUIC before you go to confirm what they will need in order to issue you a SIN. Bring a copy of your SIN to me before September 9th. Steps to receiving your funding. Before anything else happens, I need your social insurance number.

CONTRACTS – RA and TA You will receive an RA contract at the beginning of each term to be paid monthly An is sent to you with a link, go to the link, sign in with your Queen’s Net ID/password and check that the amount matches your funding spreadsheet Accept the contract electronically TA contracts are only paid in the course term and are taxable income Contracts are paid monthly. The contract is signed at the beginning of each term.

AWARDS – QGA, NSERC, OGS… Paid once per term in Sept, Jan and May
The Grad School uses the banking information you provided in SOLUS Tuition awards (GETA, ITA) go directly into your tuition account Awards are not taxed and are split evenly between the three terms. Any payment related to tuition is paid into your tuition account, not your bank account.

Teaching Assignment One TA assignment per year is part of your funding package We must fulfill our undergraduate program requirements, so you may be required to do two TA assignments (bonu$) Discuss your assignment with the instructor in the course and your supervisor, then bring any concerns to me

CHEM 801 (3 evening lectures; and an exam)
Safety CHEM 801 (3 evening lectures; and an exam) Mandatory for ALL students, even if you don’t work with chemicals, part of OCGS accreditation YOU CANNOT GRADUATE IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED AND PASSED THIS COURSE! Safety is very important. Even if you don’t work with chemicals, there are mandatory aspects to your program, such as CHEM801. Everyone must have WHMIS from Queen’s. If you were an undergrad, please check to see if you need to do the online refresher course. Access to the labs will be restricted until you have completed your safety forms with Steve and/or Kelly.

Desk Space Provided to MASc and PhD students as required
After funding eligible period (2yrs MASc; 4yrs PhD) you will be asked to give up your desk space Please ensure you clean your desk out before leaving
