2. Why do we talk about safety?
You need to be aware of safety procedures in case of an emergency.
We want you to focus on learning and not worry about safety. Know that we are prepared and will do everything to keep you safe.

3. Safety Drills
During the year we hold drills to practice what we do to stay safe in an emergency.

4. General Instructions
Your teacher will always help you stay safe. Follow all of your teacher’s directions quickly, silently and calmly.
Always stay with your class.

5. Fire
When you hear the fire alarm, line up and exit the building. As you exit, follow your teacher’s directions quickly, calmly and silently.
Follow your teacher to your class’s Emergency Assembly Point (EAP).
Stay with you teacher.
If flames, heat or smoke block your exit, your teacher will find an alternate route.
Line up silently in your class’s EAP and wait for your teacher to take attendance.

6. What if there is a Fire at Lunch?
Follow adult instructions.
Exit the building through the nearest exit.
Line up with your 4th period teacher.
What if there is a Fire during passing?
Follow adult instructions.
Exit the building through the nearest exit.
Line up with the class you just left.

7. Shelter-in-Place
A Shelter-in-Place is to keep you safe from potential dangers in the community. For example, a threatening dog on campus.
During a Shelter-in-Place your teacher will close all classroom doors and windows.
Classroom instruction continues and normal classroom activities take place.

8. Lockdown
A Lockdown is to keep you safe from immediate threats of violence in or around the school.
During a Lockdown, your teacher will immediately lock all doors and windows to your classroom.
Your teacher will have you conceal yourself and peers to the maximum extent possible. You will move away for doors and windows to an area of the room that provides the most cover.
There should be no talking or other sounds. It is important that you remain SILENT!
Do not open the door for anyone.
When the lockdown is complete authorities will unlock each door and give an all clear.

9. Lockdown
If you are not inside the classroom when a lockdown is called:
Try to enter the nearest classroom. or
Hide in the nearest restroom:
Close and lock the stall door
Stand on top of the toilet
If you are outside the building when a lockdown is called:
Return to the building with your teacher if it is safe.
Follow your teacher to another location in the community. Union’s safe points in the community are the LDS Chapel Located on 615 East or Harmons on 700 East.

10. Earthquake and you are inside…
DROP, COVER AND HOLD.
Take cover under a desk/table or sit next to an interior wall. Turn away from windows. Tuck your head down. Hold onto the legs of the desk or table.
Stay in your sheltered position until your teacher gives you further instructions.
Be aware that fire alarms often go off during earthquakes even if there is no fire.

11. Earthquake and you are outside…
Stay outside.
Move away from exterior walls, power lines, trees and fences.
After shaking stops, stay where you are for at least 60 seconds the move to your classes Emergency Assembly Point.
