September 2019 A successful start
2
To help you to support your child in having a smooth start in Nursery, we feel the following information will assist you. Please also note that a wealth of information, such as school policies, can be found on the school’s website.
3
Nursery Day The Nursery morning session officially starts at 9.00am. The Nursery door will be open daily from 8.55am until 9.00am The Nursery afternoon session starts at 12 noon. Parents and carers of children who are either being collected at this time or dropped off to begin the afternoon session are to use the entrance to Clubhouse on the Key Stage 1 playground. Nursery finishes at 3pm and the Nursery door will be open daily from 2.55pm. Children who are not attending the Clubhouse session after school are to be collected from the Nursery door at this time. If your child is absent from school please write a note or contact the office explaining the reason. If you know in advance that your child will be absent please complete a ‘Notification of Absence’ form which is available from the school office.

Uniform Children are expected to wear the Foundation Stage uniform. It is important that your child’s name is clearly marked in all clothing and shoes. It would be very helpful if your child can recognise their name in their clothing. The school uniform can only be purchased from Whittakers, Southport. This forms part of the school’s safeguarding procedures so it is important that all our families abide to this. Children in Nursery will access PE time and this will take part in the school hall. Children will complete PE sessions in their uniform and remove their shoes and socks to take part. No extra PE kit is needed. Children are able to play outside in all weathers and so it is really useful if your child can bring an all in one waterproof suit and a pair of wellies to leave in school. Please can a spare pair of underwear and socks be provided and kept in their school book bag in case of emergencies. For further information regarding the school’s uniform, please read this policy:
5
Home Visits You will be offered a home visit before your child starts Nursery. This enables us to get to know a little more about your child e.g. their likes and dislikes, their favourite toy. It is also an opportunity for us to answer any questions and to discuss any concerns you may have. These visits will be offered on a Wednesday afternoon as both Nursery teachers are available that day. If this is inconvenient please contact school to make alternative arrangements.
6
Lunch time Nursery Lunch time is from 11.30am – 12.30pm, which takes place in Clubhouse. If your child is attending all day please bring a packed lunch for them to eat and ensure that the lunch box is clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children who are only attending a morning or an afternoon session are also welcome to bring a packed lunch too, however they must be collected and dropped off at 12 noon. Please ensure that your child’s lunch does not contain nuts and eggs due to food allergies of other children in the setting. Please also consider your child's portion sizes and amount of food you provide them with in their packed lunch, as if they are over faced with too much food the children will take a long time to finish their lunch.
7
Homework ‘Talking Homework’ is set for Nursery each week, this is available on the school blog and also placed on the notices section of the entrance door to Nursery. We also have a ‘News from home’ address that you can any visits, events, celebrations or achievements that your child has taken part in outside of Nursery that you would like to share with us and want documenting in their Learning Journal.:

Sun Safety When it is sunny, we encourage children to wear sun hats when playing outside. Please can you send a named sun hat into school each day for your child. Please provide your child with a small bottle of sun cream which is named for them to apply during the day. We ask you to apply sun cream before your child comes to school on sunny days.
9
Book Bag It would be really helpful if your child could bring a book bag (available from the school office or Whittakers) every day. It is useful when taking home pictures, letters and books. Children in the school Nursery will have a ‘Belongings Box’ that will be used to keep their letters and pictures safe. Please check these at the end of each session.
10
WOW Service The children will attend a WOW (Worship on Wednesday) Service on the first Wednesday of each month at St Peter’s C.E Church at 2pm. Parents and Carers are welcome to attend.
