1 Welcome to our Math Curriculum Night

2 Math 6 Curriculum Grade 6 instructional focuses will be on three areas: Develop understanding of ratio and rate and use multiplicative reasoning to solve ratio and rate problems. Develop competency of division of whole numbers and fractions and extend the notion of number to the system of rational numbers. Develop understanding of expressions, equations and inequalities.

3 Math 7 Curriculum Grade 7 instructional focuses will be on four critical areas: Develop understanding of and applying proportional relationships. Develop an understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations. Solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

4 Homework Expectations are that students will work on Mathia, the on-line component to the Carnegie textbook, at home a minimum of 4 days a week for 30 minutes each day. Technical questions cannot be addressed by the classroom teacher. Mathia contact information Option 1 for Technical Support. Beginning of the Year: Students will be introduced to Mathia. Students are expected to get Mathia working properly at their home or wherever they will be using the on-line program by mid August. August 19th will be the first deadline for which assigned units will count towards students’ 20% Homework/Practice grade.

Grading Scale 80% = Assessments (Standards Mastery – Classroom and Illuminate assessments) 20% = Homework / Practice (Mathia, exit tickets, and classwork) A = % B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69% F = 0-59%

6 Posting of Student Grades
Grades will be updated regularly and can be viewed in StudentVue and ParentVue. If you have never used ParentVue, contact the Pueblo office for a code to sign in. It is important that you check your grades regularly. Students are responsible for making sure all absence work is turned in.

7 Assessment Corrections
Students are allowed to redo incorrect questions on an assessment if they have not mastered the necessary objectives. Students will need to complete the redo the day after the assessment has been returned to them. If successful, students will earn half credit back. (for example, if a student were to miss 2 points on a question, they could earn 1 point back). Quarter 1: Assessment corrections are mandatory for all students not earning a perfect score. Quarters 2 and 3: Students have the option to choose whether they complete assessment corrections Quarter 4: Assessment corrections are not provided during the last quarter

8 Key Point Quarter 1: Students may use their workbook and notes on assessments. Quarter 2: Students may use 1 page of handwritten notes on assessments. Quarter 3: Students may use a 4 x 6 index card on assessments. Quarter 4: No notes allowed during assessments.

9 How do I improve? Take notes, do your homework, ask questions during class, stay engaged. Come in for help. There is no extra credit, so always strive to do your best on each question and assignment. Mistakes – Fear not! Mistakes are critical to your continued growth and learning. Seek help BEFORE assessments. Use on-line resources such as Khan Academy, MathAntics, Google, Carnegie Skill Practice

10 Absence Policy When you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain the information and assignments you missed. For each day absent, the student has one excused day to complete assignments for full credit. If possible, use your absent day to work on Mathia. Check your teacher’s assignment calendar on-line, weekly newsletters, homework board in class, or ask the teacher for any handouts or worksheets you need. Schedule a time for a quiz or test make ups within the week if necessary.
