2. Background
Born October 11, 1918 in New York City to Harry Rabinowitz and Lena Rips
As a child, he showed an aptitude for the performing arts and attended and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High in 1935.
After graduating, he got an apprenticeship at Irma Duncan and Senya Gluck-Sandor’s Dance Center.
His first choreographed ballet was about sailors in New York and was written with Leonard Bernstein

Robbins’ style was a blend of ballet, modern jazz, and social dance idioms
