QuickVue Pregnancy Testing
This test detects Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine hCG is a hormone produced in pregnancy that is made by the embryo soon after conception This test generally detects levels of hCG as low as 25 mIU/mL In normal pregnancy, hCG can be detected as early as 6 days following conception with concentrations doubling every 32 to 48 hours. Levels at 25 mIU/mL of hCG (clinically significant pregnancy level) are reportedly present in serum and urine as early as 2-3 days before expected menses. Click here to go back Click here to move on
6
QuickVue Pregnancy Testing
First morning urine specimens generally contain the highest levels of hCG and may yield a more accurate test. If the urine is very dilute and has a low specific gravity (a specific gravity of ) , the sample may not contain representative urinary hCG concentrations and may fall below the detection level of our test. If this is suspected, it is suggested that another sample be used, ideally first morning void. Refrigerate specimen if unable to test within eight (8) hours. Let specimen and test return to room temperature before testing. Click here to go back Click here to move on

QuickVue Pregnancy Testing:
The contents of this kit are of use in the qualitative detection of HCG in urine only. This test shall be used as a definitive test. However, when pregnancy is strongly suggested on clinical grounds and the urine test is negative, venous laboratory testing shall be ordered for confirmation. While pregnancy is the most likely reason for the presence of hCG in serum and urine, elevated hCG concentrations unrelated to pregnancy have been reported in some patients. Conditions other than normal pregnancy may be associated with detectable hCG, including, for example, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy. hCG may remain detectable for a few days to several weeks after delivery, abortion, or hCG injections. Abnormal pregnancies cannot be diagnosed by qualitative HCG results. The above conditions should be ruled out when diagnosing pregnancy. Test results must always be evaluated with other data available to the clinician. As with all laboratory tests, definitive diagnostic or therapeutic decisions should not be based on any single result or method but should be based on a correlation of test results with typical clinical signs and symptoms. QuickVue Pregnancy Testing: Procedural Steps
Read results after 3 minutes and no later than 30 minutes. A control zone © is built-in to the Quick Vue. The development of the blue procedural Control Line next to the letter “C” is a positive procedural control. If this line does not develop, the test result is invalid. The absence of interfering background is a negative procedural control. If background color appears in the Result Window which interferes with your ability to read the test result, your result may be invalid. In this case, contact COO or designee. The test is NEGATIVE if the blue procedural Control Line next to the letter “C” appears only and no pink-to-purple Test Line next to the letter “T” appears at three minutes. The test is POSITIVE if any pink-to-purple line next to the letter “T” in the Result Window, along with a blue procedural Control Line next to the letter “C” appears. Dispose of test in regular trash. Remove gloves and place in regular trash. Perform hand hygiene. Document results in patient's record. Document results in EMR.
