. "Two wounds are corrupting our unfortunate world: indifference and selfishness. An effective remedy is needed that can be applied to these two evils. This remedy is found in the Sacred Heart of Jesus who is simply love. Men will be needed who will work to make him known. They will bear the name: Missionaries of the Sacred Heart."
Jules Chevalier MSC, 1856

MSC are the initials for the Latin words,
Missionarii Sacratissimi Cordis, which mean Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. We were not one founded, as many other religious congregations were, to do particular apostolic work or to supply one particular need. We were not founded just to teach, or just to run parishes, or just to work in hospitals. Our mission is “to be on earth the heart of God”. Following the example of Jesus and the inspiration of our Founder, we seek to lead others to the heart of God with kindness and gentleness, to that deep, personal and intimate experience of God’s love for them, and to unite them to him by love and to free them from all that holds them captive

We have always undertaken our mission in whatever way we have believed to be most effective, doing whatever brings us into contact with people – especially those who most need our help. Missionaries of the Sacred Heart will be found on all five continents in evangelization, in parish ministry, in retreat and spirituality ministry, accompanying the poor, the sick, the marginalized and refugees, in education and formation ministry, in media and communications work, in the promotion of justice, peace and the integrity of creation. The motto of our Founder was, “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere known and loved”. Everywhere! In all places, among all peoples, by all means.

In conclusion: Jules Chevalier was convinced that the Jesus he found in the Gospels was a person of deep compassion, love and understanding. This open- hearted Jesus is the one who wants to bring hope and healing to all human beings wherever and however they are suffering.
