4 Changes to the Curriculum
More content at a higher level for both tiers of entry. Students are now required to memorise additional formulae that was previously provided at the front of the exam papers. Greater emphasis has been put on application of mathematics and solving non-routine problems. Some topics have moved from AS level maths to GCSE Higher Level. A grade 9 is now considerably harder to achieve than the old A* award which makes the standard of performance at this new level exceptional. Some topics from Higher level have now been included at the Foundation Level. Some topics are new and been introduced to both at the Higher and Foundation Level. Students now sit 4½ hours of exams split into 3 papers as opposed to previously sitting 3 hours of exams split into 2 papers.

5 Assessment Pupils have previously and will continue to be regularly assessed by completing End of Unit Tests based on new style GCSE questions 3 Mock exam papers All results (% and grade) will be recorded on your son/daughters assessment sheet (in books) as well as test papers put into their folders for you to see and discuss with your child

The following equipment is required for all lessons and exams Scientific Calculator Black / Green / Purple pen (in line with school policy) Pencil Eraser 30cm ruler 360º protractor Pair of Compasses Pencil Sharpener Highlighter pen

7 Supporting Your Child – In school
Taught by qualified specialist maths teachers. Intervention lessons offered to targeted groups to revise. topics and learn good exam techniques. RAG Sheets for mock exams. Student objective sheets containing topic lists. Exercise books containing key points to a topic and model examples. Topic-based questions put into student folders. Past exam papers set for the first part of every lesson.

8 Supporting Your Child - Revision
Extended Learning - evidence has shown that spending time completing work at home improves attainment and consequently the overall grade obtained (personalised revision based upon exam papers worked on in class). AQA on-line textbook (student access codes have been provided by the school via ). MyMaths. GCSE past papers in lessons. 12 After-School Revision Classes
In the past staff have run classes on the build up to the final GCSE exam papers on a voluntary basis. Pupils will hear from their classroom teacher if such an arrangement is to take place
