Prediction of cross-resistance among rifampin-resistant isolates. The Venn diagram on the left shows known RpoB mutations that have been associated with rifampin resistance (red), vancomycin reduced susceptibility (yellow), and daptomycin reduced susceptibility (green). Rifampin resistance, vancomycin resistance, and daptomycin resistance are indicated by RifR, VanR, and DapR, respectively, in the figure. The number of resistance mutations is indicated in each circle, and the number of mutations associated with cross-resistance is indicated in the intersection of the circles. The right diagram shows the observed number of isolates harboring these mutations among the 7,099 isolates analyzed and depicts the high number of isolates predicted to be resistant to vancomycin and daptomycin among the Rifr isolates.
