2 Workforce Solutions Lower Rio
Workforce Solutions (WFS) is one of 28 local workforce development boards in the State of Texas. It is identified as board 23. There are five (5) Career Centers that serve Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties.

3 In 2015, Texas Launched 60x30TX 60x30TX is entirely student-centered: Its overarching goal is that 60 percent of the young adults (25-34) in Texas hold some type of postsecondary credential by 2030. At a minimum 550,000 students in that year will complete a certificate, associate, bachelor's, or master's from a Texas institution of higher education; graduates will have identifiable marketable skills regardless of major; and students (statewide) will not graduate with debt exceeding 60 percent of their first-year wages.

4 House Bill 5 & 3 Bill 5 (2013) To earn an endorsement above and beyond the Foundation Program, a student must specify in writing prior to enrolling in 9th grade what endorsement they intend to earn. Students are permitted to switch endorsements, so no choice is “locked in stone” in the 8th grade. Bill 3 (2019) Expands CTE funding from grades 9-12 to grades 7-12 and adds technology application courses (like computer science) for funding (1.030)

5 Workforce Career & Education Outreach Specialist Pilot Program
$5,165,488 in funding awarded to seven workforce boards for a new Workforce Career and Education Outreach Specialist Pilot Program.  Program will provide career services to students at public middle and high schools, grades six through twelve, to direct students towards High Growth High Demand Occupations. Students will receive in-depth education and direction on career choices as well as access to up-to-date labor market and career data.
