The rise of Valjevo was stopped in when the medieval Serbian state was conquered by the Turkish Empire. In 1528, there are about 600 citizens in Valjevo, of which two thirds are Christians. In 1804, in the first Serbian rebellion, Valjevo was one of the first settlements of the city type that was liberated. After almost three and a half centuries, it again becomes the Serbian city in an independent Serbian state. The outflow of the Turkish population from the city was far greater than the influx of the new Christian population. The few Christians who came were mostly craftsman and traders, so they settled in the part of the city where it was a bazaar, on the right bank of Kolubara river. Exactly at that time, the foundations of today's Tesnjar were laid.
