Objective Anyone can understand why discipleship is important to the church… By observing these three aspects
4
Rationale By observing New Testament examples
By observing biblical exhortations/commands By observing how productive it is Rationale
5
Biblical Examples: Jesus
Jesus would often preach to thousands of people, but he focused most of his energy on discipling a small group of men. They made more of an impact than the thousands that He preached to.
6
Biblical Examples: Paul
Paul was also known for discipling others, such as Titus and Timothy, who later became pastors in some of the early churches
7
Biblical Examples: John
John, believed to have outlived all the other disciples of Christ, is also known for discipling others in the early church, such as Polycarp, who became an influential leader in the post apostolic church
8
Biblical Commands: Great Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV) 19 “Go therefore and make disciples (μαθητεύω) of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen”
9
How to Treat His Commission
It is not meant to be a possibility. Christ did not say that we “could go” It is not meant to be a suggestion. Christ did not say that we “should go” It is not meant to be a request. Christ did not say, “please go” It is a command. Christ said, “Go”
10
Biblical Exhortations: Paul
2 Timothy 2:2 (KJV) 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Productive: For Equipping
Matthew 28:19a,20a (NKJV) 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… 20 …teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…. Ephesians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
