Be sure you only purchase the specified ISBN numbers you will find in Bb under the Syllabus and Materials link. 12 This is a good time for me to mention that due-dates are strict
This is a good time for me to mention that due-dates are strict. You will find due-dates listed in Bb and in the SAM account. If you let a due-date get by without submitting the assignment, the assignment becomes unavailable from the activity list and you are scored a zero on the assignment.

13 You’ll enjoy having an up-to-the minute gradebook in the SAM account
You’ll enjoy having an up-to-the minute gradebook in the SAM account. As soon as you submit a project, you should go to the gradebook to see your score. The reports tab will give you a detailed report for every project, and will even prepare a customized study guide based on the tasks you missed.

14 Your learning projects come from the sam.cengage.com web site
Follow directions carefully! Check off each step Do NOT copy from another student’s SAM account Do NOT submit another student’s SAM project You will start some projects in class and some projects you will complete as homework assignments. You MUST submit all projects by the due date. After the project due date, the project becomes unavailable in the SAM account and your score will be zero for any projects not submitted. As a review, always go to Bb for the details and instructions for the course. Learning projects come from the SAM.cengage.com web site. Blackboard will provide detailed teaching instructions for each project assignment.

The software and course was originally created to use with PC’s Revisions have been made to allow MAC users ease of use with the system Mac users will need to remember there are differences We have resources available to help you I should mention that the SAM account was originally designed for use with PC computers. Many of you have MAC computers, and for that reason, revisions have been made to allow MAC users ease of use with the system. The “Detailed Teaching Instructions” and the SAM scoring engine have been modified for MAC users. However, you will encounter some differences. If you have issues, we will advise you to use the campus PC computers.

21 Course Purpose and Description
Computer Science Introduction to Information Technology (CSCI 1305) is a course providing the student with hands-on experience related to basic computer concepts and current business software. The purpose of the course is to equip students with computer-based skills for continuing their educational and career experiences. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of and experience in the operation of a computer, using the Internet, and word processing. The Introduction to Information Technology is a required general education course. We will equip you with computer-based skills that will be useful for continuing your educational and career experiences. You’ll be surprised how much you will learn.

22 Required Materials You are required to purchase a SAM license card for use in setting up an online account where the materials will be delivered. It is critical that you only purchase the exact ISBN number provided for the course. The license card may be purchased from the NGU bookstore, or you may order the materials from other sources. SAM stands for Skills Assessment Manager. The electronic on-line account you set up after purchasing your license gives you activities to help you succeed in mastering Computer Concepts and Microsoft Office skills. Using your SAM licensed account, you will complete and submit on-line projects, train for exams, and take assessment exams. Students must follow all instructor guidelines for registration of the SAM account. Do not purchase any ISBN number other than the number listed in this document. There are several variations of the SAM account. You need the account that provides Assessments, Training, and Projects. If you purchase another account because of a lower cost, you may be purchasing an account that only provides one component of the necessary materials. Do not purchase a previously used card. Only a new card will allow the student to set up an account in their name with our institution. The SAM access license will allow you to set up an on-line SAM account where you will complete assignments. You will be purchasing an electronic key code used to set-up your personal SAM account. The SAM2013 licensed account is compatible with Microsoft Office 2013, or Microsoft 365, or Microsoft The syllabus and Bb will give you the information you need for purchasing the SAM account. Again, be absolutely certain you only purchase the ISBN numbers shown. Any other ISBN number will not be the correct account.

25 Attendance Policy Class attendance is mandatory not an option. You are only allowed to miss class the number of times your class meets in 1.5 weeks. Excessive absences will result in an XF for the course. When other school activities or events require your attendance and you miss class, you remain responsible for getting your assignments in BEFORE the due dates. Plan ahead and keep your grades high by submitting all assignments.  If another SCHOOL activity causes you to miss an exam, you MUST make arrangements to reschedule the exam BEFORE the absence. As I mentioned before, traditional classes require that you attend class. You are only allowed to miss class the number of times your class meets in 1.5 weeks. Excessive absences will result in an XF for the course. For online students submission of assignments will equate to attendance. All exams must be taken to pass the course. In traditional and online courses, not submitting more than 10 assignments can result in an XF for the semester. When other school activities or events require your attendance and you miss class, you remain responsible for getting your assignments in BEFORE the due dates. 26 Due Date Policy Every student is required to participate in class and complete assignments as instructed. It is the responsibility of the student to know what assignments are due and to submit assignments on time. Due dates for assignments are strictly enforced. Assignments become unavailable after the due date and students receive a score of ZERO for un-submitted assignments. 27 Cheating Policy Plagiarism and Cheating – Guidelines in the university catalog and handbook will be followed. Copying another student’s work and submitting it as your own is plagiarism and considered cheating. Consequences of cheating and plagiarism will result in an “F” for the course and possible expulsion from NGU. As a student of information technologies, you should know that embedded document properties are in placed throughout the documents you access through your SAM account. The encrypted code allows for tracking document author, dates, and other incriminating information if a student uses another student's work. Any attempt to cheat in any manner will result in severe consequences. Cheating is not tolerated in the course, and you must understand the SAM account tracks where projects originate and who submits them. You will see your name and other identification in the projects files, but you don’t see encrypted information embedded in the files. Any attempt to cheat in any manner will result in severe consequences.

28 Assessment Test You must have your sam. cengage

Helps us know where we are Does NOT count as a regular grade DOES count against you if you don’t take it You need to get your SAM account set up as soon as possible so you can take the assessment exam. The assessment exam helps us know where you are, does not count as a regular grade, and helps you learn how to take future exams. Even if you have not already purchased the SAM license code, follow the instructions and you will be able to set up a temporary account until you get the code purchased. But be warned, if you don’t purchase the code with the grace period, you will lose your work and may not be able to pass the course.
