Connotation and Denotation
The denotative definition is based on the literal definition of a word. The connotative definition is the figurative or emotional meaning of a word. The connotation of words can be positive, negative, or neutral.

We will use connotation and denotation to help us understand our social justice vocabulary: Oppression Collusion Culture Privilege Discrimination Diversity Marginalization Justice Race Gender Why do we need to know the connotation and denotation of the vocabulary? It will be useful in conveying a certain message and mood in your PSA titles. The word choice you use in your PSA will help to make sense of the meaning.
