2. RUDA ŚLĄSKA IS ECO !
Hi, my name is Patryk and i’m 3rd year student of Technical School No 2 in Ruda Śląska. In March we met with mrs Ewa Wyciślik, representative of the Ruda Śląska City Hall. This part of presentation is our report from this meeting.

4. We ask the Head of the Department of Environmental Protection and Mining in our city about how we care for the environment.
After the interview, we already know that :
in our city there are 3 modern wastewater treatment plants serving all residents,
we revitalize old industrial areas, create parks and places to spend free time,
officials control the condition of air and heating devices of residents,
officials control the noise level in our city through acoustic maps installations,
we conduct sustainable waste management,
we care about green areas and we prudently decide on cutting down the trees.

7. During the meeting, we learned that in our city there are also projects that aim to create the most environmentally friendly investments.
New activities are constantly underway that improve the condition of the environment in our city.
The most important is the awareness of the inhabitants. Nature is our common good and everyone - regardless the age - must take care of it.

8. ECOLOGY SURVEY

9. A survey about ecological awareness was carried out in our school.
The questions were aimed at obtaining information whether the students’ community understands the concept of ecology and taking care about the environment.
The survey was conducted electronically using Google Forms.
162 students took part in the survey.

13. Main conclusions
Despite of big understanding the concept of ecology nearly half of respondents do not segregate waste and more than half admitted that they do not use e-waste collection facilities when they throw away electrical equipment. Only half of respondents encourage others to take the ecological actions.

15. HOW TO PROMOTE ECOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR AND BECOME MORE ECO

Environmental protection should become our everyday life, or even a habit that’s why if we want to promote ecological behavior we should start from ourselves. Each of us should look for ways, which is not difficult.

17. It's enough to implement a few new rules:
Try not to waste water, for example turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, try to consume less water during bathing / showering, etc.
Instead of plastic, disposable bags, start using reusable material bags.
Replace the plastic bottles, which usually go to the basket after one use, to glass, which will be used more times.
Try to reduce paper consumption.
Do not waste electricity - its production is associated with burning coal that pollutes the air. Just remember to pull the charger out of contact and switch off the light.
Sort the rubbish so that it allows recycling .
Give unnecessary things to special containers so that they can be recycled.

18. In addition, in order to be more aware of being an eco, it is worth engaging in various types of related events, such as cleaning rivers and parks.
There is also a Polish website dedicated to ecology, where you can learn more about it and observe various eco-events such as "Eco-workshops", "Eco-picnics", "Eco-art", etc.
