2 Common Core Punch Cards
Grade 3 ELA & Math Common Core Punch Cards Here is an easy way for your students to track which Common Core Standards they have met over the school year. Each card features a different Common Core strand/domain, with the standards listed by number clockwise around the card. The cards are color-coded to help avoid confusion. There are also three cover cards, one for ELA, one for math, and one for both ELA and Math. To use, print on cardstock and cut the cards a part using the dotted guidelines. Punch holes in the upper left corner and put the cards on a ring so that each student has a complete set. There is a line for the student to write his or her name on each of the cover cards. You could put all of the standards onto one ring or use two – one for ELA and one for math. Alternatively, you could print the cards onto colored cardstock (using a different color for each page) and print in grayscale. Students can keep their own punch cards or you can keep them all in a safe place – possibly on hooks on the wall. When a student meets a standard, punch or stamp the appropriate box. I prefer a small stamp as it will allow the standard number to still be seen. By the end of the year, your students should have every box stamped or punched! A few notes about these punch cards: In cases where the standard is broken into sub-standards with a lower case letter, the head standard (the one at the top with no lower case letters) is not listed on the card. A few of the strands/domains had so many standards that two cards were required. In this case, both cards are the same color. The stars are for decoration only – more interesting than an empty box. The cards were made with enough color to differentiate the cards, but not so much as to drain your color ink.
