2 Annual Checkup: Mission
Does the mission statement indicate what the program does, who it serves, and what distinguishes it? Is the mission statement clear and concise? Does the mission statement match or reflect what is on the department’s webpage? Is the mission statement congruent with the institution’s mission and vision?

3 Annual Checkup: Goals & Curriculum Map
Are the student learning goals current? Do the learning goals clearly indicate what students should know, do, or value? Is the curriculum map current? Are the learning goals updated on the website and/or in the College Catalog? Does the department have operational goals (as opposed to action steps)?

4 Assessment doesn’t just happen!
It must be planned!

5 Deciding What to Assess in 2019-2020
Are there goals yet to be measured? Is there something in particular you want to explore or learn more about? Is there information you want to or have to collect annually?

6 Where are the opportunities to do assessment?
Individual courses? Capstone experiences? Experiential settings (e.g. clinicals, internships)? Post-graduate?

7 Are assessments already being done?
Published test scores Field supervisor ratings/evaluations Outcomes data Alumni surveys

8 Assessment Methods Scores/pass rates on standardized examinations
Test questions aligned with learning goal Assignments scored by rubric Performance ratings Student reflections Surveys Focus groups or exit interviews Participation rates

9 Important Considerations
Are you using multiple methods to assess a learning goal? Who will organize the individual assessments? How do you want the data collected? How will you ensure confidentiality? How do you determine “success?” What kind of support do you need? Show how to set up the plan in TaskStream. Then once the assessment is done, put in the results!

10 Operational Goals Are generally stable over time; they do not change each assessment cycle. Should focus on major outcomes that the department wants to achieve. Are not action steps or a “To Do” list.

11 Goals versus Action Steps
Hire 9 new faculty. Revise curriculum to align with accreditation standards. Plan the lecture series for falls semester. Schedule honor society induction.
