8 Share Examples 1. Organizational governance: Follow laws to manage and operate the business E.g. (counter example)companies such as Enron falsely report their profits on financial reports to the public and cause financial losses of shareholders E.g. Companies not following laws:

9 Share Examples 2. Labor practices: Treat employees responsibly and fairly E.g. Google builds creative working space for workers. For example, they build sleeping boxes on walls. They also provide a creative game center for employees. (counter example) Walmart provides low wages for employees. E.g. Timberland: regulate working hours and purchase insurance for employees E.g. Nike: increase salaries and improve working environment (e.g. shorter shift hours in production lines)

Tesla motors uses electric cars and reduce emissions of carbon and toxic substances. E.g. Google: use sources efficiently, support renewable energy (e.g solar, wind) Eg. Starbucks: recycle coffee cups; encourage customers to bring own cups/mug (receive discounts on coffee products) E.g. McDonalds: sustainable fiber for packaging E.g. Walmart: selling more environment-friendly products (e.g. avoiding using PVC, harmful materials in products) E.g.

11 Share Examples 4. Consumer issues: behave responsibly to customers, products and services E.g. Nissan- create a F1 (one of fixing rate) group to handle customers’ complaints E.g. Walmart offer customers with lower prices

Walmart donates up to 97 million RMB to children organizations (e.g. association of childhood obesity) E.g. Walmart offer customers with lower prices E.g. Tiffany & co. : support non-profit organizations (NGO, non-government organizations), to save ocean animals and protect ocean environment Chairty work (help children, women, people in need)

13 Share Examples 6. *Fair operating practices: A company presents strong leadership and healthy working environment when healthy employee competition is promoted, and innovation is encouraged to help improve business performance E.g. Hitachi adheres to laws and regulations and promote the compliance of all employees in business activities, including procurement, manufacture, sales, export, and taxation. Type the revised essay and submit it on ICE in the drop box “air pollution essay_C08”. *typing is an important skill for learning success in college.
