SASLAW PRO BONO PROJECT AGM PRESENATION 6 SEPTEMBER 2019

The SASLAW Pro Bono NPC project at the South African Labour Courts serves to deliver a quality advisory service and defined Labour Law legal services to those who otherwise do not have access to justice. The project is administered by SASLAW and its attorney members offer advice and services to indigent clients.

The project assists the Labour Court with giving South Africans who cannot afford legal assistance, the right to have access to justice, and to receive advice on their labour matters from professional and qualified attorneys in a dignified and respectful manner

Funding Funding has been secured from the University of Toronto for:
2019 2020 2021 Of CAD per year. This sum will cover the running costs for the 4 Pro bono offices for a year; Legal Aid SA funded a permanent attorney in Johannesburg, however, this funding will terminate in December 2019; Funding is required for the permanent attorney at the Johannesburg Office from January The cost is approximately R per year; Funding

PROPOSAL TO SASLAW NATIONAL COMMITTEE
The National Committee has agreed to a proposal from the NPC in terms of which: 1. SASLAW writes off an existing R loan to the NPC; 2. SASLAW will pay over to the Pro bono NPC 30% of the sponsorship money received, on an annual basis, of between R180K and R200K to fund the retention of the permanent attorney in Johannesburg from January In the interest of transparency, this decision of the National Committee was subject to disclosure of the decision and its basis to the members at this conference PROPOSAL TO SASLAW NATIONAL COMMITTEE
