We take it 3 times a year. Fall: September 3 – October 4
Winter: January 2- January 31
Spring: April 28- May 16
We are measuring each student’s growth over one year.
8th Grade College and Career Readiness score is 242 by the end of the year.
Online Material
Prodigy, Freckle, and Khan Academy are online resources we will use in 8th grade math.
Students may log in with their Google accounts
Students should know their passwords.
Student Textbook Material
Students were given textbooks Volume 1 and Volume 2 to take home for extra practice.

Standards Referenced Grading
In middle school, standards based grading will be in effect. Math standards will be graded individually and you will be given multiple attempts at each standard. You must reach proficiency at least 2 times before you are proficient at that standard. Each student will receive multiple attempts for each standard in the classroom, however, if an individual student needs more attempts, they may schedule a time with the teacher to take another attempt or complete a retake online (see website on the other side). An attempt may be in written form, quiz form, verbal form, or in a demonstration. Scales will be specific to the unit and learning goals. The scales will be available to all students during class.

Technology in Class
Phones and headphones are not allowed in the hallways at anytime. In 8th grade math, we occasionally do work on the computer with or without assistance from the teacher. During this time, headphones are allowed, but phones are not. The excessive use of a phone in class will result in the phone being held by administration until a parent or guardian can pick it up.
School of Rigor
Harding Middle Schools is transitioning to become a School of Rigor. This means instead of a lecture style classroom, the teacher will act as a facilitator of group work, students will complete relevant work, and students will lead and participate in conversation. It will be a transition for students who are used to being given the formulas or steps to follow, instead they will have to uncover those processes independently or with their peers.
Binders
In order to help build student responsibility, this year students are required to bring their own materials to class. Each student has been asked to bring or has been provided a binder or trapper keeper. Their binder should contain pencils, paper, and folders.
