The Energy Project For most people electricity is a common factor of every day life, for a few it’s an aspect of life that is a struggle to obtain.
2
First a little bit about us…
3
Kelly’s Vocational and Agricultural Secondary School
This presentation is done to help improve the educational health of school children in Africa. From Kindergarten to 12th grade In third world countries this is known as Preschool to Secondary School. We have a Secondary school in Sierra Leone, West Africa know as Kelly’s Vocational and Agricultural Secondary School
4
Kelly’s Vocational and Agricultural Secondary School
This school is a coed school Presently at Kelly’s Secondary School, which is from Kindergarten all the way up through Middle and High School, we have 700 students, and in that very compound we have the boarding home/Orphanage for the students who lost their parents to the Eboli and Civil War crisis.
5
Kelly’s Vocational and Agricultural Secondary School
Kelly’s School is a Vocational and Agricultural school, meaning we do not only educate the children in a multiple number of subjects, but we also prepare them to work in various jobs such as a trade or craft or technician in this third world country. We are giving them a career and education for the future. We have used Kelly’s as a base for other various projects to help our community. Our ultimate goal is not only making Kelly’s School a better place, but to help other schools in Sierra Leone and empower them to work with us and help the children in Sierra Leone nation wide.
6
How can you help? Our most important aspect of this project is not just helping the school, but spreading these projects NATION WIDE. Our goal is not just to help one school, but spread it as far as possible. For details on how you can contribute financially, please contact Millicent Sawyerr directly. Her contact information will be at the end of this presentation. Any thing contributed helps. These children deserve the basic needs that most of us take for granted every day. After everything they’ve been through with diseases and wars anything we can do to bring them just the everyday necessities will be a much needed bright spot in this world.
7
What are we looking for We are looking for a company or any kind of assistance in trying to get solar panels. These panels will provide electricity for the school and for all the projects we have in mind. Clean electricity is a tool we need to help these children become better citizens for their community and for themselves.
8
Why We Need the Solar Panels
One of the major problems in third world countries is lack of electricity This absence of a basic utility will not allow us to provide any of these projects for our community, projects ranging from Agricultural to Hydroponics. Electricity use in these projects include: The previously mentioned water tank, uses it for the pump to the water tank. The computer lab needs more reliable electricity to run properly. The science lab, library, and any activities we wish to utilize at night need electricity for vision purposes.
9
In Summary If we have someone generous enough to provide us a couple of solar panels and installation it would be a blessing to these children. We will be able to supply energy that is CLEAN energy to all the activities and projects of the school to contribute to the overall educational health.
10
Agricultural Club Project
One of the most vital aspects of Kelly’s School
11
Why Agriculture? The school’s full name is Kelly’s Vocational and Agricultural Secondary School One of our main goals is to prepare these children for the future, whether it be a trade or craft. So once they’re done with high school if they cannot afford college at least they have a valuable skill to earn a basic income by contributing to their community Agriculture is a very important part of any society, and skills in this field are highly useful even for basic survival, which is why this is such an important aspect of our school
12
Obstacles The agricultural program was started, however there were several obstacles One of the main obstacles was obtaining water. There was a lack of water supply to water the gardens for growing produce. Another obstacle involved the sun and the amount of time the children are spending in the garden underneath the harsh rays and intense heat in Sierra Leone
13
Solutions to these Obstacles
We are looking to evolve to a hydroponic garden, which can get these kids out of the harsh conditions of being out in the soil and exposed to the intense heat Hydroponic Gardening is defined as “Hydroponics is a subset of hydroculture, which is a method of growing plants without soil by using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent”
14
Two Main Benefits Decreasing the labor involved to produce the food and vegetables while keeping the students out of the sun and heat Decreasing the amount of water used in growing as well

How To Help Any donations of any amount will help. If you would like to put financial aid to a specific project you can specify that at the time of donation. To donate please contact Millicent Sawyer directly at the information below. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and donors can receive a tax deductible form for their donations. We make regular trips to the school to check on progress, you will receive updates/videos/newsletters so you can supervise your donation and see exactly how you are helping! We have a team that makes trips out to Sierra Leone and you can even join us on the journey to see first hand how your contributions are helping these children.
