Grading An Example:
8
Homework Read 20 minutes per night
Reading Log is given on Monday; due back Friday
9
Mathematics Students learn how to express math in a variety of ways
using manipulatives pictures Written explanations Students will learn a variety of strategies to problem solve, and should not necessarily depend on exclusive memorization of facts. Students typically need support with understanding word problems.
10
Math Strands Operations & Algebraic Thinking
Represent & solve problems involving addition or subtraction Numbers up to 20; ONLY one step Addition & Subtraction Strategies Add & subtract within 20; develop fluency for facts within 10 Understand the properties of operations & the relationship between addition & subtraction
11
Math Strands Numbers & Operations in Base Ten Extend Counting Sequence
Count to 150 starting at ANY number Understand Place Value Mentally add/subtract 10 to any decade number (a multiple of ten) Understand tens & ones Add & Subtract using Place Value Knowledge Use place value to add a two-digit and a one digit number with and without creating a new ten Use place value to add a two-digit number and a decade number (any multiple of ten)
12
Math Strands Measurement & Data Measurement Data
Non-standard iterating units (cubes, paperclips) Size of units determines amount needed Compare lengths of objects Data Organize, represent & interpret data given 3 categories Analyze data to determine answers to questions Time (digital & analog clocks) and Money Time to the hour and half hour Money- identifying pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters Money- determine the amount of pennies that are equal to a nickel, dime and quarter
13
Math Strands Geometry Identifying Shapes Partitioning Shapes
Defining & non-defining attributes- drawing and/or building 2-D- Triangles, squares, rectangles, trapezoids, hexagons & circles. 3-D- rectangular prisms, cones, spheres, cubes, cylinders Build a composite shape using smaller shapes; determine the amount of smaller shapes used to build the composite shape Partitioning Shapes Given rectangles or circles divide into halves or fourths Partitioned pieces must equal in size to be considered halves or fourths
14
Math Strands First Grade EOY K
Kindergarten EOY K Problem solving- find the unknown total within 10 Fluency within 5 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities Understand the last number said tells how many First Grade End of 1st Quarter Problem Solving- Find the unknown addend within 20 Fluency within 10 Relationship between addition and subtraction Understand that numbers contain other numbers and can be decomposed in different ways
15
Literacy Students placed into literacy groups based on Letterland assessments & TRC levels. Groups will change throughout the year. Students will be flex grouped throughout the year and between teachers in order to meet the needs of every student. Decoding skills (phonics) and comprehension skills will be taught both whole group and small group.
