sixth grade ROCKS! /09/2019 Upcoming, Important Dates: Add these dates to your agenda, if they apply to you: Thursday (10/10) – Early Release – 1:30 Friday (10/11) – End of First 9 Weeks Monday (10/14) - Friday (10/18) – Conference Week - Early Release 1:30 - Book Fair Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Turn in any signed paperwork to the homeroom bin. If you are not eating, you must read something. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

“Freak the Mighty” Test Part II Take the time to study for part II of your test. Remember, you only have 10 minutes! Finished early? Work on your Panther Practice and any incomplete “Freak the Mighty” work.

Panther Practice Complete the section for today, Wednesday, October 9: Figurative Language. Remember, you only have 10 minutes! This completed sheet is due Friday! Finished early? Work on any missing work for “Freak the Mighty”.

7 Conference Week Preparation
Language Arts – E.L.T. 10/09/19 Conference Week Preparation Complete ALL parts of the student reflection sheet for each of your 7 classes. Place a checkmark next to each class where you have brought a work sample. Don’t have a work sample? Write a reminder to yourself to bring one! Then, continue to organize your folder according to the checklist. Your conference will be held with your Homeroom teacher only. Speak to them to see if your parent has signed up already.

8 Reading Language Arts – E.L.T. 10/09/19 Read a book of your choice.
When you finish the book, see me to complete your book recommendation form. You must read at least 3 books this nine weeks and complete the corresponding book recommendation. You will have time in class to read, but you could also read on your own, too. You may certainly read more to earn more points! YOUR THIRD BOOK MUST BE FINISHED BY AT LEAST THIS FRIDAY (10/04). Remember to include a completed book recommendation and take your photo.

9 Writing – M/W/F Language Arts – E.L.T. 10/09/19 CNN Student News
These completed sheets are due every Friday. Add your new sheets to the next available page in your ELT notebook and put today’s date on it. Leave your notebook open to the completed CNN Student News page and stack it on the workstation table near the computers to be graded.

Language Arts – E.L.T. 10/09/19 Writing (Must Complete 3 for a Grade) Choose one of the following topics and write at least one paragraph (5 complete sentences) about it. Describe your friendship with your BFF. What makes them so special to you? What are your favorite things to do? What is one thing you really wish your parents, teachers, coaches, etc. really understood or knew about you? If you could create the perfect field trip, what would it be? Remember, it has to have some relationship with education! What are you grateful for today and why? Imagine you are planning a surprise birthday for someone. What would you have at the party? How would you keep it a secret? Free write about a topic of your choice. YOUR THIRD JOURNAL SET MUST BE FINISHED BY AT LEAST THIS FRIDAY (10/04). Every three pieces are for a grade!

11 WORD WORK ONLY Language Arts – E.L.T. 10/09/19
Complete the word work that you should’ve glued into your journal. This completed set of work is due by this Friday (10/04). Next week, we will spend time preparing for your upcoming conferences. You will conference with just your Homeroom teacher, but we will prepare for the conferences in ELT. THIS FRIDAY = MAKEUP WORK DAY
