7. it’s all developmental
So here are the important points that I would like to make.
-development is largely varied from person to person. We see this in our infants and we see it in the classroom.
-in infants we may see that gross motor skills are learned so quickly that verbal skills are more slowly acquired (or vice versa) but eventually both are learned
-in the classroom a students may quickly acquire literacy skills but need more support to master learning behaviors such as (or vice versa)
-we see and expect this large variance, so we need to be careful not to compare our children to peers or siblings
-another contributing factor is that some kindergarteners are 5 years and 10 months while some are 5 years and 1 month and we know that the younger the person – the more those month make a difference
love and support at each stage

Pressure = anxiety = lowered performance
it’s all developmental

8. We as teachers see and accept that each one of our students is at a different stage in their learning and that each child has different strengths and weaknesses. Not only that but we communicate this to the students. They need to know that it is okay and completely normal to be at different places in their learning. We strive to give that message so they can all feel positive, confident and supported in working towards goals. We need to provide learning opportunities and experiences that are fun and both age and developmentally appropriate.
We all know that too much pressure leads to anxiety and discomfort, and that anxiety and discomfort block our ability to think and learn. Just remember poor, nervous little Ralphie.
