2 Spring 2019 Conference in Review
ENCSGNA’s Spring Conference, GI Celebration in the Pines, was hosted by the GI Lab at First Health of the Carolina’s in Pinehurst, NC. It was a huge success with over 100 attendees and 20 vendors. Janet Pickard, BSN, RN, CGRN, and her amazing team along with the ENCSGNA board members contributed to the success of the event. ENCSGNA would like to recognize the First Health Endoscopy Team for their hard work and dedication in planning, organizing and achieving another successful conference. It was an amazing line up of presenters with a wide range of topics. We are very grateful for the continued support from all of our vendors. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to invest in their profession – providing another opportunity to gain more knowledge and network with GI peers.

3 ENCSGNA Member Spotlight - Kristine “Kris” Barman
Kristine Barman, BSN, RN, CGRN endoscopy nursing career spans back to 1985, when she worked in small community hospitals. Kris, as many call her, has held many positions in various endoscopy departments. Her positions include Staff Nurse, Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse III, and Clinical Nurse IV. Although she is retired now, she continues to work per diem in the Endoscopy Department at UNC Chapel Hill. When asked what sparked her interest in Gastroenterology nursing, she replied “I really enjoyed the participation in new research and technology that happens in our procedure rooms with some awesome physicians.” Kris achieved her CGRN certification through ABCGN in She is very active in the SGNA and ABCGN Community. Kris has served as an ABCGN item writer and is on the SGNA faculty for the CGRN Review Course. Kris has also served in many positions on the SGNA Board and was the SGNA National President Besides being an amazing endoscopy nurse, she is active in her church, and serves on several committees. On of her committees works with the homeless organizations to feed, house, and educate individuals and families in Durham, NC. Why did you join SGNA? I joined SGNA for the education, and networking with colleagues from across the country with which I could discuss my work and experiences. How has being a member of SGNA enhanced your career? With SGNA, I have had the opportunity to travel to Brisbane, and Sydney Australia, Winnipeg Canada, Vienna Austria, and various cities throughout the U.S. Regional SGNA Positions: Treasurer and President for SGNA Region Central Florida 2006 –current Member of ENCSGNA National SGNA Positions: SGNA - Regional Societies Committee, Program Committee, National Board of Directors, National Treasurer, National President, and currently Healthcare Policy Committee

4 ENCSGNA Member Spotlight – Bonnie Streeter
Bonnie Streeter MSN, RN, CGRN has been a member of SGNA since1993. She began her Gastroenterology nursing career in 1991 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania as the lead RN for the procedural unit. In 2007, Bonnie moved to the beautiful state of North Carolina, where she worked as a nursing supervisor at UNC Meadowmont and Hillsborough Endoscopy outpatient clinics. Currently, Bonnie, serves as the GI educator for UNC’s inpatient and outpatient endoscopy units. Over the years, Bonnie has been active member in both ENCSGNA and SGNA. She has held various positions, including regional president from She has previously served as an item writer for ABCGN and she was recently elected as an ABCGN Board of Director. Bonnie, is dedicated to the advancement of GI professional and has shared her knowledge through presenting podium presentations at ENCSGN, SGNA Conferences, mentoring and publication.
