Aim: How can we identify the function of character in “The Story of an Hour” (Chopin)?
Do Now: Answer one of the following questions.
1.) What repression do you feel in your life and what would freedom mean to you?
2.) Why is “The Story of an Hour” both a product of its time (1894) and a universal work of literature?
Objective: Students will be able to identify and analyze what textual details reveal about a character, that character’s
Perspective, and that character’s motives.

Objective: Students will be able to identify and analyze what textual details reveal about a character, that character’s perspective, and that character’s motives.
Agenda
A.) Do Now: Answer the Do Now. Turn and talk with your tablemates. Choose a captain to represent the table. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class.
B.) Discuss/Share:
-Captains will share Do Now answers.
C.) Whole Class Discussion: For the short story, “The Story of an Hour” (handout), share your answers to yesterday’s class questions.
D.)
