Students must officially release their scores to each college where they apply. SAT subject tests are recommended for specific majors on UC campuses and students need to check requirements for specific private colleges.

ED and EA require earlier application deadlines and receive earlier notifications The most selective colleges admit 25%-50% of their students from the early admission pool. For Ivy League schools it is 40% Early Decision-Legally binding and may only apply to one college under this category. Early Action-non binding

14 Let’s talk about money

15 Key Terms: FAFSA-Free Application for Federal Student Aid
California Dream Act Application-allows students without a social security number to apply for state financial aid

16 Financial Aid Federal $ Apply Oct. 1-March 2 (Don’t apply before Oct 1. You need the 2020/21 FAFSA State $ (Cal Grant)-must submit your FAFSA by March 2 for eligibility. GPA eligibility is completed by RBHS. We will have a Cash for College event in November to help families fill out the FAFSA/CA Dream Application.

17 CA Promise Grant First year full time students enrolling at Shasta College or Butte College will be eligible to receive their first 2 years of college tuition free! Must apply for financial aid. Other CA Community Colleges are also utilizing this program but check specific CC for details.

18 Other important tips: FAFSA will collect income information from two years prior to the academic year for which the aid is intended. Seniors will use parents’ 2018 tax information Parent needs an FSA ID and student needs their own FSA ID (Dream Applications don’t require this step) Priority deadline is still March 2nd but they recommend that students file early.

19 Are you financial responsible for your child’s education?
“Dependent” and “Independent” very uniquely defined for financial aid Unless Student can answer one of the dependency questions “yes”, Student will need to provide parental information If student has an unusual situation, talk to high school counselor ASAP
