Teaching them about CLEP can enhance their educational experience and help them reach their career goals. CLEP exams are rigorous, developed by more than 600 college faculty members across the country from two-year and four-year institutions. CLEP offers ANOTHER option (in addition to AP) for students to earn college credit and achieve their goals in a cost effective and timely fashion. CLEP tests the knowledge that students have gained through prior learning experience such as; independent study, prior course-work , experiential learning, on-the-job training. CLEP has been the most widely trusted credit-by-examination program for over 45 years, accepted by 2,900 colleges and universities  and administered in more than 1,700 test centers. This rigorous program allows students of a wide range of ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material and earn college credit. Through CLEP, students can: Save money. At $80, CLEP is a fraction of the cost of college tuition, fees and books. Reduce student loans. 9 Students Save and Achieve with CLEP
Improves Tuition Affordability Students who earn CLEP credit save anywhere from $1,605 at a large public university to around $6,000 at other institutions. Financial aid recipients who earn CLEP credit have higher bachelor’s degree (72%) completion rates than their non-Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) counterparts (16%) Fueling the Race to Postsecondary Success, 2011 Study The video we just watched offers CLEP as a solution to many challenges that students are facing like never before, including steady increases in tuition (5–9 percent annually) and student loan debts that have surpassed any in our history (approximately 60 percent of bachelor’s degree recipients graduate with a debt of $22,000 or more). CLEP can lower the burden of college loans by eliminating the cost for one or more courses. At $80, CLEP helps students access higher education, making it easier to finance tuition an fees. CLEP is the leading form of prior learning assessment in higher education for over 45 years. Notes to Presenter: Define PLA: Prior learning assessments test the knowledge that students have gained through prior learning experience such as; independent study, prior course-work , experiential learning, on-the-job training. Training Notes (not part of presentation): Some other programs that offer prior learning assessments include CAEL and DSST. Communicate that the data is based on studies conducted with students who earned credit through prior learning assessment (PLA) programs, including CLEP. According to a study Fueling the Race to Postsecondary Success (.pdf/3MB): Financial aid recipients earning credit through PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) program like CLEP had dramatically higher bachelor’s degree (72%) completion rates than their non-PLA counterparts (16%) According to a survey conducted by the College Board of more than 4000 CLEP candidates: 70% of CLEP exam takers said their CLEP credits made a difference in their ability to finance tuition and other fees.
