Your College plan – will be updated – Go through it Local Scholarships ACT Flyer Finding Scholarships – SCAMS never give people SS #, bank accounts, or pay for scholarships. Scholarships are gift assistance – you shouldn’t have to pay for them. Hotel meetings that Promise to find you scholarships. – Don’t do it!! Finding Scholarships takes time and a little research – I have done a lot for you but it is expansive. If you know of a certain scholarship category google it and find it – Ex. Veterans/ specific companies, etc Understanding School Types – Different types of Colleges – Different admissions requirements – Scholarship Success Guide Specialized Scholarships – Tribal Scholarships- Usually have their own app packet – Need to fill it out early HS Workbook to put some thought into and make an educated decision about what you see yourself doing in 5 years.

FAFSA - FEDERAL AID Each school puts together a “Financial Package” individualized for your family based on your tax returns and the college of your choice. You will have an EFC amount (Estimated Family Contribution) File your taxes as soon as possible and then complete the FAFSA form. (OCT 1ST APPLICATION OPENS TAXES!)

LOANS LOANS Subsidized - The interest is paid by the federal government while the student is in school. You qualify for this based on your FAFSA application. PERKINS LOANS- Government pays interest on these while you are in school. Unsubsidized –All students can qualify. Interest accrues the entire time the student is attending college. Pay it back while you are in school

Institutional Scholarships
Specific to the college Application may or may not be included in admission application Find scholarship page on college’s website Watch carefully for scholarship deadline Institutional scholarships exist for returning students also, not just freshmen Institutions offer scholarships to students attending their college, and many are specifically for incoming freshmen. The incoming freshman scholarship application may be part of the admission application or it may be a separate application. Check with your school to find out how to apply. Be sure to watch for scholarship deadlines as they may be early in the student’s senior year of high school. It’s never too early or too late to apply for scholarships! Students are encouraged to apply for institutional scholarships as they continue through college.

Scholarships that are awarded monthly, quarterly, or on a continuous basis are found by clicking Ongoing.
