Improves the carpet’s appearance and length of life Main purpose is to prevent the pile from being crushed by traffic Smoothens irregularities that may be in subfloor

Ex: oak and maple Harwood’s weight makes it difficult to install, usually requiring a professional Very resistant to dents and scratches Susceptible to moisture damage
