Monday, December 3, 2018 Organize your materials; take out plot sequence from Friday, cobra notes, writing organizer, & bell ringer paper. Put the plot sequence & cobra notes in corner of your desk Nonstop writing 5 minutes-- Bell ringer—skip a line – write the date as seen above --Skip a line write the topic December Take a minute to read the questions; they will disappear when I go to the timer. Write about anything to do with the month of December? Plans? Things you love. Things you hate. What do you think about December in the past, present, or future? What do you associate with the month of December?

Just write—try not to think about time.

As we go through the steps, make notes on the back of the rubric.
On the backside of the rubric in the top center, write: Revisions to Make Do I have a full page? How many paragraphs do I have? __Gardner? ___ Do I have the plot events? Am I missing some? Do I have a formal tone? Am I using 2018 language? D=diction How much did I ‘copy’ Mona Gardner’s words and language? Gardner had 6 uses of dialogue—how many do I have? Did I include 1 specific detail from my station cobra notes? Did I use 1 simile, metaphor, or personification (differently from Gardner)

Label both stories Number each of the paragraphs with a small number in parenthesis just before the first word of each paragraph for Mona Gardner’s and your story. Example: (1) 2. Label the plot events 1-10 with the number sign in sequence in the left margin for both stories Example: #1 #2

Highlight text to similar to original
Read the last line of Mona Gardner’s. Did you use the words “verandah” or “rafters”? Etc. If yours is similar, highlight it. Highlight them.

1. The following plot events are not in order. 2.Figure out the correct order 3. Write out each sentence in the correct order #1 (1st event) #2 (2nd event) etc. Skip a line in between each event. Write neatly. The out of order plot events are on the next slide.

The host comments on American’s way of handling a situation. The snake leaves the room, and everyone screams. The Hostess requests the servant to put a bowl of milk outside. American naturalist begins the “challenge.” The setting is colonial India in the mid-1900s during a formal dinner party. The hostess states the snake had crawled across her foot. The observant American naturalist notices the hostess’s facial reactions. The American questions the hostess as to how she knew the snake was in the room. The poisonous snake is at the dinner party under the table. The colonel, one of the guests, and a young girl discuss male and female reactions to a crisis.
