Today’s Aims Share information for the year about Y5.
To answer any questions you may have.
3
ATTENDANCE Children need to be lined up on the yard by 8:50 am each day. For security reasons, doors are shut after the children have entered the school, which is 8.55am. You will then need to use the main entrance. If they are not in class by 9am they will be given a late mark. If your child arrives after 9.25am, this will go down as an unauthorised absence. School finishes at 3:15pm each day. It is appreciated that your child is picked up promptly. In Y5 & Y6, with permission children can walk home by themselves.
4
HomeWORK Reading Reading Books from school – they need to be in school everyday It is essential that you hear your child read at least 5 times per week and comment, sign and date in the reading record. This will be monitored. If there are not 5 signatures or more each week we will be in contact. Books from the library Cracking Comprehension homework will be set every two weeks. Tips Regular reading every day (10 minutes a day). This could be reading magazines, comics, home books etc. Question the children about characters and content etc.
5
MATHS Beat that challenges My Maths
Sent home weekly after a ‘Beat That’ test – must learn those highlighted in green (copy them out several times, test orally etc). The children will be quizzed every week and that quiz sheet will be sent home. Practise online at Quizlet Jmyhill. My Maths Homework is set every two weeks. If you have a tablet or an iPad you can access the My Maths homework website through Puffin Academy. How you can help: Practise times tables up to x 12. Allow your child to go on Timestable Rockstars
6
OTHER HOMEWORK Sketch homework sent home when Miss McCarney is teaching in Y5. Regular spellings sent home half termly, then tested randomly throughout the term.

These are some examples of what we expect. Your child should be spending at least half an hour on their sketch homework each week.
8
Assessment Children will be tested on grammar, writing, spelling, reading, maths arithmetic and maths reasoning in the Autumn, Spring and Summer term (PIRA, PUMA and GAPS)
9
EQUIPMENT & UNIFORM No trainers - Sensible black shoes are part of the uniform. Only gold studs to be worn for earrings and a watch. P.E Kits must be in school every day. We will deliver both indoor and outdoor P.E. From a safety point of view, it is essential that children wear shorts and pumps for indoor P.E. Trainers, tracksuit bottoms and tracksuit top needed for outdoor P.E. (St Thomas’ blue outdoor kit not football shirts etc) P.E is a valuable part of the curriculum and unless a letter with a medical reason is provided, all children are expected to participate. No ear-rings, watches or taweez to be worn during PE.
10
Medical conditions Asthma pump/spray – in school, labelled and within date. Creams for eczema – labelled. Other conditions – please speak to our SENCO Mrs Martin.
11
Class contributions We ask for just 50 pence per week (£19.50 for the year) to cover costs to enhance your child's learning and provide for additional resources. This is all paid through ParentPay. A huge thanks in advance for your support with this.
12
Finally Thank you for coming and your continued support.
