Concept Note

Introduction If you have a project idea the ASI Local Innovators team would like to hear it. This form is designed to help you explore your idea so that, together, we can take it forward and start developing it into a successful and effective project. The first slide explains how the ASI: Local Innovators team assesses your idea from concept to project design. We then ask six questions about your idea, with a few sub-questions, so we can understand what you want to do. Remember, if you need advice or get stuck, drop the ASI: Local Innovators Initiative team a line on localinnovators@adamsmithinternational.com or by calling Tom (Thomas.chapman@adamsmithinternational.com) or Nick (nick.parkhill@adamsmithinternational.com).localinnovators@adamsmithinternational.comThomas.chapman@adamsmithinternational.comnick.parkhill@adamsmithinternational.com

Assessment Pillars Alignment to Mission The Foundation’s Mission: To stimulate innovation in development by delving into root causes of local development problems; addressing them through local solutions. Resourcefulness Utilising ASI’s extensive knowledge and networks to deliver change Tackling problems we are uniquely placed to address. Impact Delivering robust accountable and meaningful projects to tackle some of the most difficult development challenges. Risk Understanding and mitigating our risk even in some of the most difficult places to work in the world.

Where is the project? Enter text here… The project needs to be in an area that ASI already operates in. 1.What specific problem is the project trying to address and what activities do you anticipate undertaking to address it? Enter text here… Think about: -What the root causes of the problem is and who it effects. -Is the problem you are addressing the cause or a symptom of another root cause? 2.Is there local demand for change and what is the evidence? Enter text here… It’s important that you speak to beneficiaries and other stakeholders about the problem to see if they want change. But before you do this, think about how and if you can approach them. The problem you are trying to address may be a sensitive issue. So make sure you obtain the right permissions before contacting potential beneficiaries. Alignment to mission

Resourcefulness 3. Do you have local viable partners identified? Enter text here… If so please provide a brief summary of their services, how they would contribute and their contact details. 4. What resources do you anticipate needing to complete the project? Enter text here… Think about: -What skillsets you need and whether you have contacts which have these skills? -Are these resources both available and committed to the change you want to create? -What other resources could you utilise (staff, office, equipment, transport? 5. Anticipated project duration? Enter text here…

Risk 6. What are the risks to ASI? 1.Example: Fiduciary risk from misappropriation of any funds risks the legitimacy and impact of the project as well as reputation risk to ASI. It can be easily mitigated however with strong financial controls put in place and regular internal and external audits to ensure spending is tracked. 2. 3. 4. 5. Think about: -What the reputational risks are? -What the key operational and delivery risks? -How are you going to mitigate these?

Now you answered all the questions and further developed your idea, please provide a summary of the concept (max 250 words): Enter text here….
