Unit 2 Sticky Questions HPS 2019
2
Miscellaneous How do you know which equation to use? Which numbers to use?*** Do we have to memorize the formulas/equations? YES What is the best way to memorize them? CHRONOLOGICALLY What are all the equations we need for the exam? SEE GREEN OBJ PACKET What are the units for the variables? LOOK AT TEXTBOOK/PPT/NOTES How long is the test? SAME AS THE LAST ONE When do you add the 2 to m/s? ACCELERATION Will we be using calculators or chromebook? EITHER Will this be the last exam or test before break? (1 more quiz on Energy) What is the best way to study? LOOK OVER QUIZZES/NOTES/PPT/TEXTBOOK/ASSIGNMENTS What do we really need to know for the test? SEE GREEN OBJ PACKET
3
Objective 1 How do you find velocity? V=x/t
What are 1-dimensional calcs? ALL THE CALCS WE HAVE BEEN DOING
4
Objective 2 What graphs will we need to know? x vs t, v vs t, a vs t
What is the slope of a x vs t graph? VELOCITY v vs t graph? ACCELERATION Draw the three graphs for the following scenarios: at rest, cruise control, free fall.
5
Objective 3 What are Newton’s 3 Laws? Examples of each?
What is inertia and how do we use the term? What is the force experienced when a 55 kg person hits a brick wall and comes to a stop after running at a velocity of 3.5 m/s East? The collision takes 0.20 seconds.
6
Objective 4 What is the Law of Conservation of Momentum?
82 kg running back is headed 4.9 m/s E when a 95 kg linebacker tackles him bringing both athletes to the ground. What was the linebackers initial velocity? If they were in contact for .40 seconds, what was the force applied to the running back? What was the impulse experienced by the running back? What is the difference between momentum and inertia? What is an easier way to remember the conservation of momentum equation? Are the units of Imp the same as Momentum? For a collision occurring between object 1 and object 2 in an isolated system, the total momentum of the two objects before the collision is equal to the total momentum of the two objects after the collision. That is, the momentum lost by object 1 is equal to the momentum gained by object 2. The F are equal (Newton’s 3rd Law), the t is equal F x t = Impulse = change in momentum, so equal and opp momentum changes
7
Objective 5 What two factors affect gravity?
The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 1.6 m/s/s. Bud stepped on a force plate that read 127 N on the moon. What is his weight in pounds on Earth? What is his weight in Newtons on Earth? (1 kg – 2.2 lbs on Earth)
8
Objective 6 CD SFS PT: compare theories, evidence
What is the difference between old ocean crust and young ocean crust?
9
Objective 7 What are the forces involved in driving plate tectonics? Why do the plates move? How does it work? What are some human implications from PT? Do we have to memorize the PT worksheet?
