1 4th Grade Parent Information

2 Be On Time Student is tardy after 9:15 bell and needs to check in at the office. 2 tardies = 1 absence

3 Agenda Students have been shown how to use agenda. It is an organizational tool we will use to help them now and in the future. All homework should be circled each night. All completed assignments should be crossed out when turned in. Parents, PLEASE check nightly for homework/notes and then initial agenda. Please make sure they are following this routine every evening.

4 Agenda-Continued Portfolio goes home nightly. (This is where you will find homework & class activities.) Library book needs to go home nightly-Every child needs to read minutes every night. ***There will not be a daily reading log this year, however, students are still required to read every night. Please return the library book to school each day. There will be times during the day where they will be able to read.

5 Absentee Homework Homework will be ready the next day.
Write absent by name on heading of paper. The student is allowed 1 day for each day absent to turn in their work.

6 Assignments Worksheets will need a name and class number (Ex: K1, L1, or S1). Incomplete heading and/or no name papers will result in a 5 point deduction. Late papers will result in a 10% deduction.

7 Assignments-Continued
Parent Portal-Please sign up to use this. It will help you track your student’s grades and missing assignments. We try to put grades into Portal in a timely manner.  If you notice a “Missing” on an assignment, your child has not turned that assignment in.  “Missing” assignments are averaged into your child’s score as a 0%.  Please ask your child about this assignment and help us get that turned in.

8 Assignments-Continued
Some assignments that have been scored as 69% or lower may be redone or corrected for a higher grade.  We do reserve the right to not allow this on some assignments.  The purpose of this procedure is to help students that do not understand a concept—not because they rushed through and did not try their best the first time.

9 Thursday Folders These contain notes and graded assignments—It is a communication tool between parent and teacher. PLEASE review the material, then sign, and return on Friday. Weekly AR goal will go home as a colored note-will start in September.

Students need to know multiplication facts (within 3 seconds). We will have some websites for practice once information is available.

13 Reading/Accelerated Reader (AR)
Reading-Goal sheet in Thursday folder each week; please sign weekly and return- starts Sept. Read nightly minutes. This is required homework each night. Every student will have an individual AR goal based on their STAR test. AR tests may be taken during free time/computer time/morning work. Students must sign a log in order to test. This will help maintain integrity.

14 Reading-Continued 2 AR grades will be taken each quarter. One for points earned/goal assigned. (Example: Goal is 10 points. Student earns 8 points in the quarter. 8/10=80% The grade would be an 80%.) One for overall comprehension average. Any instances of cheating will result in a 0 being recorded for that grading period for their AR grades. See Reading Requirements for more details.
