Let’s Get to the “Point”
1. Writers use different points of view to tell their stories. 2. There are three primary types in literature: a) First person b) Third person limited c) Third person omniscient

First Person Point of View
3. In first person the narrator is part of the story. 4. They recount events from their perspective and observation point. 5. They use “I” and “me.”

Third Person Limited 6. In third person limited point of view the narrator is NOT part of the story. 7. They use pronouns such as “they” and “he” and “she.” 8. They CAN only see inside the thoughts and attitudes of ONE or a LIMITED number of characters.

Third Person Omniscient
9. In third person omniscient point of view, the narrator is NOT a part of the story. 10. They use pronouns such as “he,” “she,” and “they.” 11. They CAN see inside the thoughts and attitudes of ALL characters because they are “all-knowing.”

Let’s Try it Out! Read the following examples and determine whether first, second, third person limited or omniscient are being used. #1 I flew to Tampa with my sister the other week. I ended up getting sick on the airplane from a stomach bug!
