1 MMI Quick Training Provides more holistic admissions process
Traditional admissions practices in pharmacy have placed a larger emphasis on academic measures over non-cognitive assessments to guide selection decisions A successful pharmacist needs to possess a strong foundation of knowledge, effective practice skills, and exceptional personal qualities

2 What it is Series of several very short structured interviews
One-on-one (no panel) Each interviewer stays in one room with one scenario and interviews each applicant Each applicant rotates from room to room through all scenarios

3 Why we use it Multiple skills assessed
Multiple opportunities takes pressure off applicant Multiple scores submitted takes pressure off of interviewer Well researched Good reliability and predictive validity Lowers bias/liability Less time/resources Disadvantages Additional stress Can feel impersonal One-on-one uncomfortable for some One simply trains to do well in that environment Less chance to tell own story, show their unique traits Don’t see team skills

4 How it works Station themes (e.g., communication, ethics, motivation, empathy, integrity, problem solving, maturity, knowledge about profession) Each station/scenario has one main question the applicant reads and ponders briefly outside interview room (short paragraph) Interviewer has packet with main question, prompting questions, guidelines, background/theory, score sheets (2-3 pages) At this point can you picture or need more description?

5 Don’t be like me - arrive early
Arrive 10 minutes before first interview to review the scenario: Student instructions Your instructions Scenario background Scoring tool And don’t no show!

6 We run a tight ship 12:00 – Student signaled to read scenario
12:02 – Student signaled to enter room, introduces himself by name, where from/living, something unique to know about him 12:03 – Faculty introduces herself by name, what her title/role is with College, something she likes to do away from work 12:04 – Discuss scenario (7 minutes) 12:11 – Student signaled to leave room (let them go!) 12:12 – Process begins again

7 Scoring Use the full 10 point scale throughout the day
Would others do better? worse? Can change scores after you see more applicants Make notations if very low or very high Your score matters!…a little
