Year 7 History – Funky Facts!!! – Sources
Anything is a source BUT that does not mean that it is useful. For example, a Roman shield would be useful to an historian studying the Romans but not very useful investigating the Second World War. Sources can be divided up by type. These are – Visual - Sources that we look at. Written - Sources that have been written. Oral - Sources that we listen to. Physical - Usually objects or buildings. (Objects can also be called artefacts) Sources can also be categorised as – Primary (from the time period) , and Secondary (made afterwards ot a replica).

Year 8 – Funky Facts!!! – The Renaissance
The Renaissance was a period of time, but the dates for it change depending on which country you are in!!! It started in Italy around 1300AD and spread across Europe by the start of the 15th Century. In England, it happened during the reign of the Tudors ( ). Renaissance means ‘rebirth’ in French and a lot of CHANGE happened. Some people started to question religious beliefs, such as the existence of God. Artists began to create work that showed humans more accurately. Architects designed buildings that were influenced by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Scientists challenged traditional ideas, such as the shape of the world, or they created new technology. The invention of the printing press led to new ideas being spread across Europe as books no longer had to be handwritten and could be printed.

Year 9 History – Funky Facts!!! – Alliances before the First World War
Before the First World War, the most powerful countries in Europe had formed alliances with each other. Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy had created the Triple Alliance. Britain, France and Russia had formed the Triple Entente. Theses countries promised to defend each other if they ever were attacked. Although alliances were not new, the agreements made between the countries increased the chances of a war. If a disagreement started between any two nations in opposite alliances, then the others could quickly get dragged into conflict.

Year 10/11 History – Funky Facts!!! – Christian influence on Medicine
Christians believed they should care for the sick, but not treat them. God sent illness, so curing an illness might be challenging God. Hospitals were built, but they were not very big. Many could only accomodate 12 people (the number of Jesus’ disciples.) In hospitals, patients would rest in clean and peaceful surroundings. They were encouraged to pray. Most hospitals were paid for by the Church, but a few were built by wealthy patrons. Hospitals specialising in a specific illness began to be created. St Bethlehem (later known as Bedlam) became an asylum and lazar houses were built away from towns for people with leprosy. Doctors were not present in hospitals.
