5th grade Learned Traits LL
Quarter 2 How can we restore order after chaos? Standard(s): S5L2 Obtain, evaluate and communicate information showing that some characteristics of organisms are inherited and others are acquired. EQ: Can you determine how traits are acquired to avoid chaos? Resources: STEM Bettes Learned Traits video Materials: laptops, Legends of Learning Lesson: Students will determine how traits are acquired. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Step by step instructions on the board Write the definition of learned traits in your STEM journal Access Legends of Learning from Google Chrome Enter your log in information Choose the Inherited Traits activity Navigate through and answer questions about acquired traits When finish, complete the Free Play options
2
How can we restore order after chaos?
Learned traits/characteristics – Learned or acquired traits develop during life, they are not inherited from your parents. Examples: Things you learn (riding a bike, reading, writing) Things that happen to you (short hair, broken bone)
3
4th Grade Ecosystems LL How does change impact relationships? Standard(s): S4L1 Obtain, evaluate and communicate information about the roles of organisms and the flow of energy within an ecosystem. EQ: Can you determine how ecosystems can be changed? Resources: STEM Bettes Ecosystems video Materials: laptops, Legends of Learning Lesson: Students will determine how ecosystems can be changed. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Step by step instructions on the board Write the definition of an ecosystem in your STEM journal Access Legends of Learning from Google Chrome Enter your log in information Choose the Ecosystem activity Navigate through and answer questions about acquired traits When finish, complete the Free Play options
4
How does change impact relationships?
An ecosystem consists of all of the natural elements in a specific environment and the relationships among them. Direct Influence - Severe weather are natural events that directly impact an ecosystem. Animals could have a direct impact on an ecosystem as the animal hunts food. Direct drivers may also be human influenced by the introduction of a species not normally associated with a particular ecosystem – such as kudzu which has a devastating impact on that ecosystem.

3rd grade Weathering and Erosion LL
How does evidence imply relationships change? Standard(s): S3E1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the physical attributes of rocks and soils. EQ: Can you determine how weathering and erosion effect rocks and soil? Resources: Legends of Learning Weathering video Erosion video Materials: Laptops, STEM journals Lesson: Students will determine how weathering and erosion effect rocks and soil. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Step by step instructions on the board Write the definition of Weathering and Erosion in your STEM journal Access Legends of Learning from Google Chrome Enter your log in information Choose the Weathering and Erosion activity Navigate through and answer questions about acquired traits When finish, complete the Free Play options
6
How does evidence imply relationships change?
Weathering is the process where rock is worn away or broken down into smaller pieces. Erosion happens when rocks and sediments are picked up and moved by ice, water, wind or gravity.
7
2nd grade Pollution and Lego Recycle Bins
What are the implications and consequences of change? Standard(s): SS2H1-H2 Describe cultural and geographic systems associated with historical figures (Creek and Cherokee). S2P2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to explain the effect of a force (a push or a pull) in the movement of an object. EQ: Can you create recycle bins out of Lego? Materials: Lego, sample recycle bins, STEM journal Resources: STEM Bettes Water Pollution video Lesson: Students will create recycle bins out of Lego. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Provide paper activity Step by step instructions on the board Write the definition of Pollution in you STEM journal Discuss how litter can pollute land, air, and water Draw your plan in your journal for creating recycle bins Build mini recycle bins that could be used to collect litter Engineer your bins to people can easily access them
8
Pollution can be reduced by recycling and reusing common materials.
Recycling bins are used to separate materials for reuse. What are the implications and consequences of change?
9
1st grade Ozobot and Light
How do relationships have power and bring change? Standard(s): S1P1 Obtain, evaluate, and investigate light and sound. EQ: Can you determine why Ozobot changes color based on your color codes? Resource: STEM Bettes Light video Materials: Ozobots, Ozo markers, white paper, STEM journals Lesson: Students will determine why the Ozobot changes color based on their created color codes. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Step by step instructions on the board Write the definition of light in your STEM journal, include artificial light and natural light Design a path for Ozobot to follow Use the markers to create color code for the Ozobot Determine which color Ozobot will change when it navigates to each color Think-Pair-Share your thoughts of why Ozobot changes color
10
How do relationships have power and bring change?
Light: the bright form of energy given off by something (as the sun) that makes it possible to see Artificial Light Natural Light
11
Kindergarten Ozobot Intro
How do we communicate the ways to classify our world? Standard(s): SKE1 Obtain, evaluate, communicate observations about time patterns (day to night) and objects (sun, moon, stars) in the day and night sky. EQ: Can you determine which objects would be seen in the day sky versus the night sky? Resource: STEM Bettes Ozobot video Materials: Ozobot, Ozo markers, white paper Lesson: Students will determine which objects would be seen in the day and night sky. Differentiation: Students can collaborate Step by step instructions on the board Use the markers to create a path for Ozobot to follow Determine how Ozobot can see the color on your paper Would Ozobot see the colors at night? Would the colors change? Think-Pair-Share your thoughts about what Ozobot can see at night
