WEMCO® Hydrogritter® II Complete Grit Removal Package
From Weir Specialty Pumps, manufacturer of WEMCO® equipment
2
The problem
3
Grit creates a costly burden on basins, digesters, and clarifiers
damages equipment wears out pumps increases maintenance costs settles out everywhere Too much grit can eventually shut down an entire treatment plant if not properly removed
4
Manual grit removal is costly, time consuming, messy, and labor intensive.
5
the solution
6
WEMCO® Hydrogritter® II Complete Grit Removal Package
WEMCO® Hydrogritter Grit Classifier CAVEX® Cyclone Grit Pump Grit Disposal Pump Suction Piping Cyclone Return Piping Vent to Atmosphere Grit Chamber (Grit Source) Pump Discharge Piping
7
How does the Hydrogritter® II system work?
8
1. Grit settles out of the influent flow in the grit chamber (or other grit source).
9
2. Grit is pulled from the source, through the grit pump and pumped to the cyclone.
Grit Source
10
3. The cyclone concentrates the grit and separates the organics from the grit.
Grit Source
11
4. The Hydrogritter® II settles the grit, separating it from the water and sends it to a dumpster for disposal. Grit Source
12
5. For automatic operation and to decrease operating costs, the grit pump and Hydrogritter® II are cycled on and off by a control panel. Grit Source
13
Benefits of a Hydrogritter® II system
14
Benefits Automatic grit removal Low maintenance
Decreases maintenance man-hours All downstream equipment lasts longer due to less grit wear Low maintenance Replace oil every year Regrease bearings every 6 months Visual inspection every month A single source for all components (Hydrogritter®, pump, and control panel) One PO Single source responsibility Each component specifically designed to work together
15
Benefits Proven grit removal technology Low capital cost
Original Hydrogritter® designed over 70 years ago CAVEX® cyclones used in thousands of installations worldwide Manufacturer of the original recessed impeller pump WEMCO® Torque-Flow® pumps Low capital cost Low operating cost
16
Hydrogritter® II and pump sizing
17
Hydrogritter® II Capacity
One (1) CAVEX® cyclone sized for psi pressure drop Effective flow rates: 200 – – 15 psi pressure drop Even if the elevations or calculated head are off by up to 10 feet (28% of total head), the cyclone will still perform Can be mounted at either the grit discharge or classifier overflow end Captures at least 95% of grit sized 150 mesh and larger with a specific gravity of 2.65 or greater One (1) grit classifier Cyclone feeds the grit classifier at a flow rate of 11 gpm Classifier is sized to handle a maximum cyclone feed of 20 gpm Service factor of 1.8 on the cyclone feed flow rate
18
Pump Capacity Sized for 250 gpm @ 35’ TDH.
This allows for: 4 ft. of vertical head between the pump suction and the inlet of the cyclone. 10 psi pressure drop through the cyclone (23.1 ft.). 1 ft. of friction loss in the piping. Up to 7 ft. of lift between the surface of the water and the pump suction. Motors are sized to be non-overloading throughout the entire pump curve. No need to worry about the motor overloading at any flow rate. 3” suction and discharge allows for high velocities to suspend and carry settled grit.
19
WSP™ Self Primer grit pump option
Non-overloading 7.5 HP motor
20
WEMCO® Torque-Flow® submersible grit pump option
Non-overloading 9.2 HP motor
21
System Capacity Up to 2 MGD plant flow rate
Capable of processing up to 13 cubic yards of grit per day Calculated maximum grit flow of a 2 MGD plant is only 1.5 cubic yards of grit per day For sizing of larger treatment plants, please contact your local representative
22
