Model of the change in receptor structure on engagement of the ligand IFN-γ. When IFN-γ binds to the receptor complex, the distance between the IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2 chains and the distance between the two IFN-γR2 chains increases. Opening the intracellular domain regions provides an opportunity for entry of components of the downstream signal transduction components.
