4 Why has this been created?
This programme has been created to enable you to reflect on your current performance and determine any necessary steps you need to take in order to become an even more effective Headteacher. This programme has been created around you – to provide you with personally tailored challenge and support; to provide you with the space to discuss ideas, theories and tools; and to enable you to benefit from, and to help others facing similar challenges. All of this is being done with the singular purpose of helping you to improve.

5 What is the purpose of the programme?
The programme promotes highly effective leadership through self-evaluation and reflection, exploring the relationships between leadership, successful schools and the wider community. Participants will explore and develop the impact of their leadership to: Reflect on their own leadership style Reflect on how their leadership impacts on others Reflect on the impact of a range of leadership styles i.e. distributed, transformational and collaborative Understand the theory of change with a particular focus on the reform journey Reflect on leadership to secure effective change on the transformational reform journey Collaborate with others to lead their schools effectively and to impact positively on leadership across Wales Embed a culture and practice of appropriate innovation across and beyond their school.

6 Who is it for? We have created this programme specifically for experienced Headteachers You are having to navigate an ongoing series of daily challenges – adhering to regulations, managing budgets, managing people, working with stakeholders, liaising with local authorities, reporting to Governors, dealing with welfare issues, implementing changes to the curriculum, communicating with parents and being responsible for the education of thousands of our young people. You know, and we know, that your role is far beyond being a teacher or a manager – you are required to lead in all of these aspects, and so this programme recognises that role and is designed to offer you support in meeting those challenges.

7 What is involved? 360 360 degree leadership review 1-2-1 coaching
Two Residential Workshops Communities of Practice

8 360 Degree Leadership Review
Everyone who takes part in the programme will be required to undertake a 360 degree leadership review. This will allow you to measure yourself against a set of leadership competencies. You will also be able to measure your judgement against those of peers and colleagues. A coach will then work through the feedback report with you, exploring differences in perception, themes, areas of strength and identifying areas for improvement. 360

9 1-2-1 Coaching "Coaching is not telling people what to do; it's giving them a chance to examine what they are doing in light of their intentions." James Flaherty Everyone who takes part in the programme will be allocated their own experienced and highly qualified executive coach. They will work with you on a confidential, basis to focus on your individual needs. Your professional coach will provide a safe, structured and confidential environment to help you understand your current competencies, identify and clarify goals and the action steps you need to take to reach those goals.

10 Residential Workshops
The programme will feature a series of residential centres, where we will bring you together with other participants in order for you to: Understand your own leadership impact on others Understand the impact of appropriate leadership styles Understand theories of change Understand and support people in the change process with particular regard to well-being Plan for and assess change readiness Develop your communication skills

11 Communities of Practice
These workshops will help to develop Communities of Practice – a group of experienced peers who can continue to meet and, in doing so, become a resource for each other. During the workshops we will present you with ideas, tools, concepts and theories for you to consider, adapt and adopt as you feel appropriate. However, you will also benefit from sharing challenges and solutions with the other participants; from challenging each other and benefitting from not just the experience of others but the support that those conversations provides.

12 When will it happen? September 2019: Application process October 2019:
Completion of 360 Degree Leadership Review & coaching commences November – December 2019: First residential workshops (two days) March – May 2020: Second residential workshops (two days)

13 What do I need to do now? Discuss your potential application with the relevant personnel ensuring both you and the school have the capacity to fully commit to the programme. Obtain confirmation from your Chair of the Governing Body that your application will be supported. Complete the application form and submit to your regional co-ordinator by 1300hrs on the 23rd September 2019.
