Figure 1 Schematic Illustration of Selected ESCRT-Dependent Repair Processes (A) Migration of cells through narrow constrictions frequently causes rupturing of the NE with a concomitant loss of nuclear integrity. ESCRT-III and VPS4 are recruited to damaged sites for repair. (B) After chromosome segregation in mitosis, ESCRT-III and VPS4 help to seal the re-forming NE around chromatin. At sites of intersection between spindle microtubules and the NE, the AAA+ ATPase spastin supports microtubule severing.
