Environmental Scan & Functional Benchmarking
Environmental Scanning is the identification of opportunities and threats affecting the business for making strategic business plans. As a part of the environmental scanning process, the organization collects information regarding its environment and analyzes it to forecast the impact of changes in the environment. This eventually helps the management team to make informed decisions. Functional benchmarking is a comparison to similar or identical practices within the same or similar functions outside the immediate industry.

Discussion (Notes) Moving Forward
Survey contains good macro level information as a baseline guide. But what is the purpose of the survey? Post PowerPoint on website with dashboard link so interested parties may view content. Provide opportunity to comment/make recommendations. Stratify Student population by New vs. Continuing to see if there is a difference in trends. Gauge interest in a workgroup to refine the survey for future use: Strategic deployment with longer survey window and Chancellor messaging to drive up response rates. Really think about the purpose of the survey. Focus on action oriented questions based on findings gathered from this survey. Think about what questions are asked in other surveys offered on Campus Think about timing – end of the school year is a busy time for surveys! Think about what questions are asked in our National Surveys (CCSSE and SENSE) as they provide peer comparisons. Do not duplicate questions unless they could be used for intervention purposes. National survey data comes back too late to use for student intervention. .
