We want to find out what to plan for our town’s future. So we’re going to hold a census!
We need to think about:
What questions will we ask?
What data do we want to gather?
How will we use this to help planning?

How many people live in the town?
We need this information to plan services, such as hospitals, schools, etc.
How many people live in each flat/house?
We need this information to help plan the town’s future housing.
Why do we need to know people’s ages?
We need this information to plan for schools, health and future housing needs.
Why do we need to know how people travel to school and work?
We need this information to help with transport planning.

We found this information out after carrying out a census.

The school in our local town is a two-form entry.
This means that there are up to 30 children in each class, and up to 60 children in each year group.
The results of our census show us that there are over 270 children aged up to 3 years in the town.
